Will a penitum 4 1.8 Ghz Processsor 400 FSB 478 PIN SL5VJ?

I have a Dell 2400 computer i replaced the celeron processer with an Penitum 4 processer will this work?My com will power on but it will not go beyond the dell logo or go into bios want letb me reinstall windows xp does this mean the pentium processer is not compatible The hard drive is 40gb 768 Mb ram 128 mb graphic card.
