Shouldn't blacks be more offended by Don Imus being fired than by what he said?
I, for one, am glad he was fired to tell you the truth. I think the guy is an ignorant moron at best, who should never have had a radio show to begin with. This is not the first time he has shown himself to be a biggot. Losing his job is simply karma doing what it does. But, I do agree that more good could have come from his education in tolerance and race relations. They really should have made him talk about race and racism, calling on black city leaders from around the country, on his radio show for the two weeks he was supposed to have been suspended. I'd love to think that losing his job would effect him in such a way to have taught him a lesson. But the truth is, he's learned nothing from his experience and there was no real accountability for what he did, nor did he take much responsibility for it. Effectively, another racist was simply temporarily silenced. He'll be back, on some radio show, after all this business dies down. The best thing I could hope for coming out of all of this would be the opportunity for people to talk about what's at the core of this whole thing, what is, and what is not appropriate in matters of race. The most poignant truth is the reality that the population is only going to grow, forcing us to be closer to one another, and it would do us all more of a service if people learned how to be more tolerant of each other.
